India's capital Rises to Hazardous Smog After Celebrations

Various sections of Delhi registered an air quality index over 500, which represents ten times the safe level recommended by the global health authority.

Near the festival period, the concentration of hazardous particles in the air has been documented to spike to 70% higher the peak levels ever measured in Beijing, which was once regarded as the planet's dirtiest metropolis.

This crisis in Delhi is attributed to a mix of multiple factors including heavy vehicle emissions, airborne particles, building projects, rubbish burning and smoke from agricultural fires in neighbouring states of neighboring agricultural zones.
Throughout these areas, agricultural workers illegally set their fields on fire to expedite field preparation, producing toxic smog that becomes contained over the city as colder air descends.

These hazardous conditions results in increased incidence of neurological, cardiovascular and breathing diseases, and can even lead to cancer.
Environmental contamination is projected to be accounting for approximately 10k early mortalities each year in the capital.
